For this new 2025 campaign, we wanted to pay tribute to one of the most brilliant Californian breeders of his generation, for whom we have great respect both for his entire career and for the overall quality of his high-end genetics. He is the creator of the now-famous cannabis strains Wedding Cake, Jealousy, Ice Cream Cake, Animal Mints, Animal Face, Orange Push Pop, and, more recently, Permanent Marker. As you may have guessed, yes, we’re talking about Anthony Hart, aka Jbeezy/Seedjunky Genetics.
Seedjunky Genetics has distinguished itself for many years through the quality of its top-tier cannabis genetics in California. Furthermore, when the SILENT SEEDS team SILENT SEEDS the lineage of all the strains developed by Seedjunky Genetics, we quickly realized that Jbeezy approaches breeding with genuine dedication, rigor, and methodology, ensuring that each strain boasts excellent stability.
\n\n\n\nThis actually makes perfect sense, since many of its varieties share a closely related genetic lineage, which results in this very strong genetic stability; the only downside to all this, is that, ultimately, many of its hybrids also share fairly similar overall characteristics across the board (plant structure, yield, flavor profile, etc.), which can become problematic over time, as it leads to potentially excessive homogeneity within its collection, ultimately limiting genetic diversity.
While giving it all the credit it deserves, we realized after a while, around 2021/2022, that his genetic collection was starting to go a bit in circles for these very reasons, but since then he has taken other directions and is now further diversifying his gene pool, with a view to incorporating more genetic diversity into his catalog. What is certain is that his signature Kushy/Gassy aroma is still there, but with innovative and incredibly high-quality variations—true artistry.
After some deliberation, the SILENT SEEDS team decided to pay tribute to his work without necessarily seeking a direct collaboration, as we have done in recent years with various prestigious breeders on the international cannabis scene. This time, we were truly committed to carrying out an even more thorough selection and stabilization process, which is why we undertook the project to select and create the strain named Mint Candy. We could have collected certain high-quality elite clones from some of his genetics to eventually create an S1 version, but that wasn’t very interesting; we wanted something more authentic, with a genuine creation of our own, especially since we have the knowledge and experience to do so easily.
For the project to create the Mint Candy cannabis strain, we first conducted a major selection process using regular seeds from the Animal Mints Bx1 and Face Mints strains by Seedjunky Genetics. From this initial stage, we carefully selected an Animal Bx1 male and a Face Mints female, which were then crossed to produce a new batch of regular seeds. From this new batch of seeds, a rigorous selection process was carried out among more than 500 plants to ultimately obtain our elite female Animal Face Mints clone .
The final stage of this breeding project was therefore to cross elite, trendy, and sought-after clones—such as Tropicanna Cookies, RS-11, and Face Off OG Bx2—with our own carefully selected Animal Face Mints clone. Subsequently, the final step in this entire process was conducting various in-depth tests to verify the performance level—and particularly the stability and quality—of these exceptional new limited-edition varieties, so that we could ultimately be certain of delivering the highest satisfaction to the most demanding growers and collectors around the globe.
