For the first article in this series, we have chosen mint. It is an aromatic herbaceous plant native to North Africa, the Mediterranean region, and Central Asia. It is frequently used, among other things, to alleviate digestive, respiratory, and inflammatory disorders.
\n\n\n\n
The vast majority of people enjoy mint, most often for its fresh, mild, distinctive, and soothing aroma and flavor. Moreover, the term \"soothing\" is particularly apt here, as mint is clearly an aromatic plant whose health benefits are now widely recognized. It is often used to make various herbal teas, as well as in cooking.
\n\n\n\n
As Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, so aptly put it, “Let food be thy medicine.” Although this saying dates back to the 5th century B.C., it remains just as relevant today. Mint is an aromatic plant with a multitude of varieties (peppermint, spearmint, Moroccan mint, pennyroyal, Chinese mint, ice mint, apple mint, Thai mint, Ricqlès, etc.) that can easily be found growing wild in many private gardens, forests, and other natural areas. Of course, each variety has its own specific properties.
\n\n\n\n
Types of Mint
\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n
Mint is a plant species belonging to the Lamiaceae family, which thrives in the temperate and warm regions of the world. Basil, thyme, lavender, sage, rosemary, oregano, and lemon balm also belong to the same family. It is a herbaceous plant that grows to about 70 cm in height, growing wild but also capable of being cultivated under certain conditions. In its natural state, mint most often grows in moist, shaded areas and is harvested during the summer months.
\n\n\n\n
The ancient origins of mint
\n\n\n\n
This highly fragrant plant is native to a vast region, including North Africa, the Mediterranean basin, and Western Asia. Texts dating back to Ancient Greece and Rome have been discovered that mention the earliest human uses of mint. We also know that it was commonly used by the Hebrews and the Egyptians. It was during this period that we observed these civilizations exporting mint throughout the Old Continent. Thanks to manuscripts dating from the 1st century AD, we have learned that the Romans used mint leaves to flavor their dishes. It was also cultivated in European gardens and monasteries as early as the 4th century. It was not until somewhat later, during the 17th century, that the medicinal properties of mint essential oil—as we know it today—were discovered.
\n\n\n\n
\" Properties of Mint \"
\n\n\n\n
Among the many health benefits of mint, five key benefits stand out. Mint aids digestion, helps prevent cardiovascular disease, is an excellent pain reliever, soothes the respiratory tract, and helps boost iron intake and detoxify the liver.
\n\n\n\n
Improves digestion
Mint is an aromatic herb known for its digestive properties. If you’re experiencing indigestion, bloating, or recurring intestinal pain, fresh mint can help. It’s also proven effective for constipation and diarrhea. It’s easy to enjoy its benefits—simply add it to your meals or drink fresh mint tea after eating.
\n\n\n\n
Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases
Some scientific studies have shown that mint slows down the oxidation of “bad” cholesterol. It appears that mint’s natural ability to do so is significantly greater than that of nine other plants with similar effects. It is important to note that the oxidation of LDL cholesterol in the blood is a major risk factor that can contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease.
\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n
“A detox tip for the morning after a party: try a fresh mint regimen”
\n\n\n\n
A well-known pain reliever
If you suffer from muscle or joint pain, make yourself a cup of fresh mint tea, as it has effective pain-relieving properties. It also has antiseptic properties, soothes insect bites, and disinfects wounds. In addition, it is said to have the ability to relieve headaches and calm the nervous system.
\n\n\n\n

for respiratory relief Some studies have shown that peppermint has antibacterial and expectorant properties.
\n\n\n\n
It is therefore no coincidence that the action of its various active ingredients helps relieve coughs, clear the airways, and decongest the nasal passages. This effectiveness is due to the presence of a terpene called menthol, which is also found in certain strains of cannabis. Menthol helps eliminate phlegm and mucus. In this specific case, it is recommended to use essential oil, which should be applied to the chest or inhaled via a vaporizer to facilitate passage through the respiratory tract (aromatherapy / herbal medicine).
\n\n\n\n
Iron Intake and Liver Detox Iron is a mineral that is essential for proper oxygenation of our cells and body tissues. When a person is iron-deficient, it manifests as a pale complexion, constant fatigue, and recurring headaches, accompanied by chills. To counter this, it is recommended to consume fresh mint to provide your body with sufficient iron. Simply prepare an infusion or incorporate mint into your meals.
\n\n\n\n
With the current, gradual lifting of COVID-19 health restrictions and the chance to party again in bars and clubs, you’re bound to put your body through a lot. So, a great detox idea for the morning after a night out is to try a little fresh mint regimen. When you eat too much fatty food and/or drink a lot of alcohol, your body needs a little rest, especially your liver. Mint’s liver-supporting properties will help your liver process what it takes in more easily. This tip also applies during the holiday season.
\n\n\n\n

\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
“Mint: A Beneficial Plant” The cannabis plant is a wonderful, beneficial plant; however, there is a wide variety of medicinal plants in our natural environment.
